Purpose of Job
The purpose of this classification is to plan, organize, coordinate and evaluate the nutritional component of public health services for the Health Department.
Essential Functions:
Assessment and Planning: Conducts community assessment of the county’s nutrition and diet-related health problems and available resources to determine nutrition needs in the population.
Program Development and Management: Designs, implements and evaluates nutrition and health programs that align with grant deliverables including policy, systems and environmental changes related to chronic disease prevention across the lifespan.
Education and Outreach: Plans and delivers nutrition education programs using current scientific information for professionals, schools, community groups and the public; develops and updates educational materials for use by the Health Department; communicates nutrition information through various media channels as needed.
Community Collaboration: Develops and maintains partnerships with community organizations and participates in coalitions as needed.
Consultation and Technical Support: Provides expert nutrition case consultation to Health Department staff and providers.
Professional Development: Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading professional literature, participating in professional workgroups and attending related seminars and conferences; serves as a preceptor as needed.
Breastfeeding Promotion: Facilitates East TN Breastfeeding Coalition; provides support and breastfeeding education for professionals, providers and the public; maintains Breastfeeding Resource Guide and other educational materials.
Chronic Disease Prevention: Facilitates East TN Wellness Roundtable; delivers chronic disease management classes; facilitates Supporting Nutrition Awareness in Communities (SNAC) initiative.
Community Nutrition: Facilitates Nutrition Education Activity Training (N.E.A.T.) and affiliated programming.
