| Position Description: |
This position serves as the Medical Director and Chief of the Center for Immunization. This Center is complex with responsibility for management and oversight of multiple CDC Cooperative Agreements with a total budget of approximately $9.6 million, as well as for multiple large and small procurements, and funding allocations to all 24 local health departments to support a broad spectrum of vaccination activities. The program is also responsible for (1) maintaining and operating ImmuNet, Maryland’s Immunization Information System and MY IR, a consumer portal for immunization records, (2) overseeing both the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program with over 600 participating medical providers and the newly established MVP vaccination program for adults, (3) maintaining and strengthening collaborations with various professional associations representing Maryland health care providers, pharmacists and other vaccinators, and (4) for providing direction and oversight to local health departments investigating and controlling vaccine preventable diseases. This position provides experienced clinical and public health leadership in directing, coordinating, and promoting the work of the Center to local health departments, medical providers and professional associations, performing highly responsible programmatic and administrative work at the level of a program administrator who has extensive training, expertise, and experience in clinical services related to the prevention and medical management of vaccine-preventable diseases, current public health practices related to vaccinations, project management, communications, policy development, and community capacity-building. This position uses experience and knowledge in the area of vaccine-preventable diseases, childhood and adult immunizations, immunization information systems, and program management to provide statewide leadership and to serve as the MDH’s liaison to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention related to immunizations.
This position is required to work after normal working hours, on weekends and holidays as needed to respond to reports of vaccine-preventable diseases and public health emergencies, and to serve as an MDH physician on call as scheduled.

| Qualifications: |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Qualified candidates must possess a Doctorate Degree in Medicine (MD) from an accredited college or university, a valid Maryland license to practice medicine, Board Certification and at least two years of medical practice.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Qualified candidates should be a Board Certified Pediatrician with experience in clinical and public health leadership directing, coordinating, and promoting immunization programs. In addition to administration and fiscal skills, the desired candidate should have current knowledge of the medical management of vaccine-preventable diseases, public health practices related to vaccinations, project management, communications, policy development, and community capacity-building.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS 1. Applicants for this classification must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.
2. Applicants for this classification must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization.
