| Position Description: |
Established in 1989 in response to the California Conference of Local Health Officers’ need to employ qualified epidemiologists in California’s health departments, Cal-EIS is a one-year training program for health professionals who have at least a master’s degree in a field related to public health. The mission of Cal-EIS is to prepare epidemiologists for public health leadership positions in California.

| Qualifications: |
Cal-EIS applicant requirements include: 1) United States citizenship or possession of a Green Card permitting permanent residence in the United States. 2) Possession of a master’s or doctoral degree in a health- related field (i.e., Masters of Public Health – Epidemiology/Biostatistics track preferred, PhD, DVM); and having taken at least two courses in epidemiology, two courses in biostatistics, and one course in R during graduate/professional school. 3) Applicant must reside within California during the Fellowship. 4) Demonstrated analytical skills. 5) The primary selection criteria are demonstrated interest in and ability to practice epidemiology in a California public health agency, and commitment to a career in epidemiology in California.
