| Position Description: |
Gain real-world experience at a community- based nonprofit working to end the HIV epidemic in metro Atlanta.
Since 2013, H.Y.P.E. to Empower, Inc. has worked to empower youth, young adults, women, transgender individuals, and families to become leaders who transform their lives and communities through education and advocacy. We serve Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett, Rockdale, and Newton Counties through HIV testing, health education, support groups, community events, and wraparound services.
We're seeking motivated interns who want hands-on experience in nonprofit public health. Interns may focus on one area or rotate across several, based on their interests, skills, and academic goals. This internship is a great fit for students and recent graduates in public health, social work, health sciences, information technology, data analytics, human resources, business, communications, and related fields.
INTERNSHIP FOCUS AREAS
Public Health and Community Outreach: Support HIV testing events and outreach tables throughout our service area. Assist with health education, stigma reduction, and community engagement activities. Help plan and evaluate public health programs and interventions, and research health data and trends affecting the communities we serve.
Data and Reporting: Enter and manage program data in Apricot 360. Help build and maintain reports and dashboards in Zoho Analytics. Support grant reporting, data quality checks, and program evaluation.
Information Technology: Support staff with technology setup, troubleshooting, and software use. Help maintain systems, databases, and digital tools, and assist with website updates and digital workflows.
Human Resources: Support volunteer and intern recruitment, onboarding, and recordkeeping. Help maintain personnel files, policies, and training materials, and assist with scheduling, staff communications, and HR compliance tasks.
Program and Event Support: Help plan and run community events, support groups, and educational programs. Assist with logistics, supplies, setup, and participant engagement, and support food distribution and other community services.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for candidates who are currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college, university, or graduate program (high school seniors may be considered for select roles) and who have a strong interest in public health, community service, health equity, or nonprofit work. Interns should be organized, reliable, self- motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team, including managing remote work responsibly. Comfort with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace is expected, and experience with databases or data tools is a plus. All interns must be able to keep information confidential and be nonjudgmental and inclusive toward people of all backgrounds, identities, and orientations. Outreach- focused interns must be comfortable talking openly about sex, sexual health, and HIV.
WHAT YOU'LL GAIN
Interns gain hands-on experience in nonprofit public health and community-based HIV services, practical skills in data systems, program management, IT, and HR, and mentorship from experienced nonprofit and public health professionals. This internship supports academic practicum, field placement, or capstone requirements. Interns who successfully complete the program receive a letter of recommendation and verification of hours, along with networking opportunities within metro Atlanta's public health community.
LOCATION
Hybrid. In-person work takes place at our office in Summerhill (Atlanta) and at outreach events across Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett, Rockdale, and Newton Counties. Remote work is available for tasks that allow it, depending on the focus area. Orientation and training are held in person at our Summerhill office.
TIME COMMITMENT
Minimum 15 hours per week (about 60 hours per month), for a total of approximately 240 or more hours over the 4-month internship. Schedules are flexible, and event-based shifts may include weekdays, weekday evenings, and weekends. Interns seeking academic credit may arrange additional hours to meet their school's requirements.
COMPENSATION
Unpaid. Academic credit is available, and we'll work with your school's requirements.
