Position Description: Solano Public Health provides an exciting career opportunity for Epidemiologists! Epidemiologists in Solano Public Health have plenty of opportunities to be involved in the different programs within Public Health and other county agencies and work with the community and community organizations. Our Epidemiologists are expected to provide epidemiologic and evaluation support to the Communicable Disease; Chronic Disease; Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health; Nutrition Services; Older and Disabled Adults programs and the Public Health Laboratory.

Typical duties as an Epidemiologist are: • Implement and coordinate local surveillance and research activities within the department; • Make recommendations regarding programs and procedures for the control and prevention of disease and of the conditions that affect health; • Provide consult to the department, other divisions, community based organizations, other agencies and the public; • Analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to assess the health of the community, including social, economic, and political factors that affect health; • Publish and disseminate information to interested parties and the public; • Plan, conduct and evaluate epidemiological activities; • Design and lead program evaluation

The highly qualified candidate for this position will have strong data analytic skills and be able to translate simple and complex data and ideas to the public effectively. The workload and priorities may shift, therefore, the ideal candidate will possess the ability to adapt well to the changing environment as well as handle multiple projects at once. The ideal candidate will also have excellent critical thinking skills, be able to collaborate effectively with different disciplines, organizations and groups of people, and have strong interpersonal communication skills.

Qualifications: Experience:

Two years of experience designing, conducting, analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating epidemiological studies with emphasis or specialization in epidemiology.

Education/Training:

A Master's degree is required from an accredited college or university in epidemiology, public health or a health science field with emphasis or specialization in epidemiology. A doctoral degree (PhD or DrPH) in epidemiology, public health or other related health science field may be substituted for one year of experience.
