Position Description: The University of Maryland School of Medicine Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS) invites applications for a postdoctoral position to work with Rebecca Brotman, PhD, MPH on two projects funded by the National Institutes of Health. We are seeking a candidate who is interested to study the role of the human microbiome in relation to women’s health. The work will focus on how the vaginal microbiome provides protection from sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and the development of bacterial vaginosis (BV), as well as the effect of commonly used vaginal lubricant products on the health of the vaginal microenvironment.

This position requires a highly motivated candidate with a doctoral degree in Epidemiology who has excellent oral and written communications skills. Applicants should have the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research group. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience in longitudinal data analysis, database management, epidemiology of infectious diseases, women’s health, microbial genomics and those with experience working with recruitment and retention in cohort studies.

Postdoctoral fellows have the opportunity to gain training in the molecular epidemiology of the human microbiome, genomics of infectious diseases, human microbial metagenomics, functional genomics, and bioinformatics as well as clinical translation and interventional research. Postdoctoral fellows at IGS benefit from a community of interactive research labs, bioinformatics experts and a variety of state of the art sequencing, and computational resources in a world- class institute dedicated to genomic, basic, and translational research.
