Position Description: PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION: The purpose of this classification is to provide primary prevention education to TennCare Kids Program recipients and families. TennCare Kids provides checkups and health care services for children who have TennCare. This program ensures babies, children, teens and young adults receive the care they need. Preferred candidate would be experienced in community outreach, bi-lingual fluent in Spanish and English and possess the ability to communicate in both verbal and written forms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all- inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Home visits, community activities, refer to community resources, accurate records keeping, outreach activities, and other duties assigned by program manager. Applicants must be able to work with a diverse population and exhibit good communication skills.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Responds to and reports immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Department of Health. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications: MINIMUM TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a High School Diploma or GED; college course preferred, or any equivalent combination of education, training, knowledge, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position. Preferred candidate would have community outreach experience; bi-lingual fluent in Spanish and English and possess the ability to communicate in both verbal and written forms. Requires the use of personal vehicle, and must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license with proof of auto insurance coverage. First consideration will be given to Knox County resident (minimum of one (1) year).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of office machines, such as a computer, printer, telephone, copier, calculator, and equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active work.

SCHEDULE: Must be able to work twenty (20) flexible hours (between 8:00-4:30 p.m.) per week. Occasional work hours may include evenings and weekends.

Organization Description: We are a local health department. As a public health agency, we work to promote and protect the health of everyone in our community. We track and monitor diseases, conduct extensive health education and outreach, provide and connect people with care, enforce food safety and air quality laws and regulations, prepare for public health emergencies, and more — all with the goal to ensure the conditions in which every Knox County resident can be healthy. We have nine divisions and employ more than 260 professionals including public health educators, epidemiologists, physicians, environmentalists, nurses, nutritionists, emergency preparedness specialists and many others. We are a division of Knox County Government under the supervision of Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett.
