Position Description: Morehouse School of Medicine is seeking a candidate with experience managing and analyzing large health datasets. This position provides direction and support for scientific and research activities. Responsibilities include supporting or conducting scientific research and the collection, analysis, and reporting of data. Typical functions include grants administration, theoretical and applied research, human subject compliance, laboratory support services, animal care, etc. DUTIES ? Manages and organizes various files in in large health claims and clinical electronic health record datasets. ? Manages data integrity, creates queries and develops scripts and programs to automate processes and facilitate querying the database in the most efficient manner for multi-terabyte datasets. ? Database management and complex data extraction for creation of inclusion cohorts and analytic files using SAS, SQL, and Oracle ODBC in an encrypted data server environment. ? Data manipulation—- recoding & computing new variables, including data cleanup, on large population datasets. ? Develops and manages cross-walk files such as drug code to ingredient or icd-9 to icd-10 crosswalks, as well as census data and other neighborhood-level variables linked to zip code or county of residence in health datasets. ? Works closely with research faculty to develop study designs and analytical plans for ongoing and developmental research. ? Develops quality control, data management, and analysis plans for assigned projects. ? Works with guidance from research faculty and senior biostatistician to conduct complex data analysis and generate data outputs, and prepares tables and charts for health services and health outcomes research manuscripts. ? Designs and leads, from conception to completion, epidemiologic investigations, surveillance, and interventions with significant impact on public health. ? Provides related training. ? Oversees the collection, analysis, and interpretation of complex statistical data and the preparation of epidemiologic reports requiring extensive knowledge of epidemiology and biostatistics.

Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s of Public Health, Master’s Degree in Biostatistics, Mathematics, Statistics or closely related field strongly preferred. Degree must be from a regionally accredited institution. Experience: 3-5 years of related experience. Individual should be proficient in various database and statistical software applications and programming languages for extracting research analytic files from large flat-file and relational health databases, and performing routine statistical analyses on these data for research faculty. Must demonstrate high-integrity and effectiveness in managing security and confidentiality of personal health data. Must have strong writing, quantitative, and computer skills. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES ? Skill in developing and analyzing a variety of research data using statistical methods and data management techniques, using software to include SAS, SQL, and Oracle ODBC. Working knowledge of SPSS and/or STATA to assist faculty using these software would also be helpful. ? Skill in helping clinical faculty and learners to interpret epidemiological, scientific, and statistical results. ? Skill in directing data extraction and analytical components of research projects, and efficiently analyzing health claims and health services research databases. ? Working knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT-code formats for diagnosis and procedure codes. ? Demonstrated competence in conducting public health surveillance, analyzing data, and reporting results. ? Experience organizing, managing, and guiding efficient use of very large datasets, such as our 29-state (290+ files, 3-5 terabytes of data) claims database. ? Experience with specific health care datasets, such as large claims databases or multi-site electronic health record data warehouses or health Information exchange. ? Experience in the conduct of health services, clinical, epidemiologic, or population-based research to provide data collection and analysis for developmental research ? SAS programming skills for health services research data analysis – bivariate (chi-square, t-test, ANOVA) and multivariate (linear, logistic, and Poisson regression); additional experience with predictive analytics, survival analysis, and/or longitudinal data analysis, social network analysis, predictive modeling would be a plus.
