Position Description: We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join two CDC-funded research studies to increase HPV vaccination in primary care settings. Through survey and implementation research, the first study will identify and train primary care providers in a structured approach to communicating with vaccine hesitant parents. Through a large-scale RCT, the second study will evaluate systems-level quality improvement strategies to inform CDC’s national AFIX program. Both studies offer the opportunity for multiple first-author papers, collaboration with CDC partners, and funding to support conference travel. Led by PIs Noel Brewer and Melissa Gilkey, we are a dynamic and highly-productive team of behavioral scientists based in the University of North Carolina’s Gillings School of Global Public Health. Our portfolio of research has garnered national media attention ( ) and yielded evidence-based intervention tools that have been disseminated nationally to improve HPV vaccination ( ) We have extensive experience mentoring early career investigators, with our postdocs going on to tenure-track faculty positions in R1 universities including Ohio State, Harvard and Georgetown. Our structured approach to postdoctoral training is a good fit for quantitatively-oriented aspiring academics who are bright, productive, and fun to work with. Postdocs benefit from membership in Dr. Brewer’s Health Cognition and Behavior Lab as well as a wide array of resources in the School of Public Health and the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Responsibilities will include: • Preparing survey findings for publication in leading academic journals in collaboration with our team. • Leading planned formative research and intervention development activities; assisting with survey development; creating training protocols and assisting with data collection. • Developing new ideas and incorporating them into planned or new research; assisting with grant writing; handling administrative tasks, potentially including managing IRB applications. • Presenting research at national conferences and meetings; attending research seminars; mentoring graduate students and staff as needed.

Qualifications: Educational Requirements: PhD in Public Health, Psychology, or related behavioral science field.

Qualifications and Experience: - Must have training in quantitative statistical methods. - Experience in HPV vaccination, adolescent health, or cancer prevention is helpful but not required
