Position Description: Under the supervision of the Group Manager, the MMP Project Coordinator/Research Specialist V performs advanced research and epidemiological work requiring specialized knowledge of health behaviors related to TB/HIV/STD transmission. Responsible for the coordination of activities involved in the implementation of the Medical Monitoring Project (MMP) in Texas. Coordinates activities related to sampling frame development, healthcare facility, provider, and patient recruitment and data collection. Prepares budget and grant documents, data collection protocols and procedures, annual, interim progress reports, and other reports required by CDC or DSHS. Conducts migration, management, and analysis of collected data. Prepares scientific manuscripts, and public health reports and presentations. Reviews reports, manuscripts, and other documents for statistical accuracy, and interpretation of data. Ensures the statistical validity and epidemiologic applicability of study activities. Presents various study results/findings at professional, state and national meetings. Serves as liaison to federal project officers with the responsibility for providing input regarding project implementation and project updates. Serves as liaison to contract site with the responsibility of providing direction to site-specific studies and to provide guidance and direction to the contract data collection staff. Develops data collection efficiency protocols and quality control protocols by review and revision of existing procedures. Implements and monitors new quality assurance procedures at central office and at the data collection sites. Writes and manages MMP related contracts and federal grants, and prepares IRB applications for submission. Initiative, creativity, and advanced technical and methodological skills are important qualities for this position. Work is performed with extensive latitude for independent judgment.
