Position Description: CDC Foundation is seeking a qualified candidate to work with CDC’s International Micronutrient Malnutrition Prevention and Control program (IMMPaCt). The incumbent will provide technical assistance and training for a project “Field testing of a proof of concept, an imaging device for child anthropometry.” This project will evaluate the suitability (accuracy and acceptability) of a new imaging device, the AutoAnthro system from Body Surface Translations (BST), Inc., for assessing recumbent length and height of children ages six to 59 months in the context of large- scale nutritional status assessment surveys or surveillance systems. Field trials of the proof of concept will be integrated into a minimum of two planned surveys/surveillance system rounds. This integration will require collaboration with international and in- country partners. Current expected field test locations are one country in Central America, one country in Africa, and potentially a third country in Asia.

This is a CDC Foundation position that will work directly with CDC and most likely to be placed at a CDC location.

Responsibilities: • Support acquisition of requisite approvals from applicable organizations/governments to allow field trials of the AutoAnthro system in planned surveys/surveillance system rounds. • Receive training from BST on the AutoAnthro system, and coordinate the final data acquisition protocol, including drafting ethical approval documents, protocols, instruments, and manuals. • Travel to each field test location to plan for the integration of this evaluation into the planned surveys/surveillance system. • Travel to each field test location to provide on-site training to local survey teams at each site on the use- and integration of- the AutoAnthro system, caregiver acceptability questionnaire, and all evaluation procedures into their routine survey/surveillance system. • Provide technical assistance to survey sites, in support of their data collection. Supervise pilot tests in each site and early stage data collection. • Perform data management, analysis and report writing/peer-reviewed publications in support of the evaluation field trials.

Qualifications: Qualifications and Experience Requirements: • Doctoral degree in human nutrition, public health, epidemiology or social science with background in nutrition and anthropometric measurements. • Minimum of two years of experience working in international nutrition programs or projects, preferably in the area of anthropometry assessment. • Knowledge of organizing, implementing, and reporting population based nutritional surveys and monitoring and evaluation systems; direct field experience preferred. • Experience in nutrition survey and surveillance data management and analysis, including use of statistical analysis software such as Epi Info, SAS, STATA, and/or SPSS. • Good coordination, communication and inter-personal skills, together with the ability to understand and communicate with people from different cultural and professional backgrounds. • Self-motivated and able to work independently under general scope of program objectives and duties of the position. • Strong written and oral presentation skills. • Fluency in English language is required. In addition, skill in a language beyond English, especially French or Spanish is an asset. • All employees must successfully pass a federal background check in order to maintain employment.

Other: • The position requires two years commitment and involves substantial international travel (~20%), at times for extended periods of up to 4 weeks. • Annual salary is commensurate with applicable skills and related experience.
