Job Title: Clinical Research Epidemiologist
Job Number:
Organization: Trauma Research, LLC
Posted: 11/28/2017
Type: Full-Time
Classification: Epidemiology
Number of Openings: 2
Location: Denver,  CO    USA
Position Description: This position would be responsible for drafting literature reviews, study design, utilizing a variety of epidemiological and statistical techniques to analyze data and control for confounding factors and bias, and ultimately preparing and submitting manuscripts to peer-reviewed scientific journals. The candidate will also be responsible for identifying and submitting abstracts to appropriate national and international conferences, paying particular interest to those occurring in tropical locations where sun screen application is vital.

In order to accomplish these tasks and make a meaningful contribution to medicine, one will interface with multiple hospitals, study investigators, clinicians (e.g. surgeons, radiologists, and nurses), study coordinators, data abstractors, and other stakeholders. We currently work with six Level I Trauma Centers in Colorado, Texas, Kansas, and Missouri, which admit approximately 139,000 patients per year. This large source of patients across four states is what fuels our studies, and give us powerfully generalizable results.

Trauma Research’s clinical studies typically deal with patients who have suffered traumatic injuries, including traumatic brain injuries and strokes, but also deal with health care quality improvement initiatives. A successful candidate must adapt to and learn about different diseases and medical practices for each clinical investigation. In one study, one might have to learn about a specific neurosurgical technique and the applicable brain anatomy. In another study, one might have to learn about how protocols have changed over time, and think about how that has impacted a health system. Once our epidemiologists have become familiar with a topic, they are encouraged to come up with their own clinical hypotheses, and investigate their own questions.

We currently employ six clinical epidemiologists with a variety of experience and interests. Our team is replete with people who enjoy their job, and are genuinely interested in science, statistics, and venturing into the unknown (medically speaking). We are look for the same qualities in a candidate.

Qualifications: Desired Skills and Experience :

A Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH), Master of Public Health (MPH), or PhD degree is required to join the team.

At least two years of post-graduate professional experience, or equivalent, in the field of biostatistics or epidemiology.

Must have a strong publication background.

Be proficient in a statistical programing package (e.g. SPSS, SAS, R). We will not teach you how to use SAS, R, or another statistical package.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Be able to summarize detailed information in an organized and concise manner.

Possess advanced skills in the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint–or their Apple equivalents. You will be required to regularly present your findings at internal meetings

Must be an independent, motivated, and enthusiastic team player. We are a small company, so you must be able to play nice and work hard.

Additional qualities being sought, but not required, include: familiarity with health systems and quality improvement initiatives in a clinical setting.

Lab and basic science experience is a plus but not necessary (after all, we work with computers and data, not cellular materials).
