Position Description: The Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine seeks to fill a 12-month tenure-track or tenured position at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Spatial Epidemiology. The Department has a vibrant multi- disciplinary faculty examining population health topics from different perspectives (i.e., genomics, clinical care, health behaviors, community factors) and now seeks a new faculty member with expertise in spatial epidemiology to accelerate research focused on physical and social environmental determinants of population health trends and inequities. Expertise and a strong record of application of modern methods of data collection (i.e., remote sensing, social media, mobile apps, ecological momentary assessment) and advanced spatial analytics (i.e., spatial regression, temporal-spatial analysis, risk surface modeling, GIS mapping) are expected. Ability to apply these skills to collaborative, multi-disciplinary research in Northeast Ohio/Greater Cleveland focused on any of the following health topics is desirable: chronic disease, infectious disease, maternal child health, mental health, substance use, rare diseases, or violence. A PhD or equivalent degree is expected in epidemiology, statistics, population or public health, geography, or relevant quantitative subject.

Qualifications: Commensurate with rank, preference will be given to candidates with a strong external funding portfolio and an excellent record of publications reflecting independent and/or collaborative research programs, especially those who could contribute to existing departmental and institutional research. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent, extramurally-funded research program and contribute to the teaching and training mission of the Department’s PhD, MS, and MPH programs.

Organization Description: The Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences ( offers research and graduate education in biostatistics and bioinformatics; genetic epidemiology; global and environmental health; health promotion and prevention; and health policy and services. Case Western Reserve University and its associated hospitals (University Hospitals/Rainbow Babies, MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic, and VA Medical Center) provide a rich environment for basic science, clinical, and population health research. Research is promoted through multiple research centers within CWRU including the Prevention Research Center for Healthy Neighborhoods, Institute for Computational Research, Center for Health Care Research and Policy, Center for Reducing Health Disparities, Center for AIDS Research, Comprehensive Cancer Center, Center for Global Health and Diseases, Center on Urban Poverty and Community Development, Schubert Center for Child Studies, and the Begun Center for Violence Prevention.
