Position Description: Under the supervision of the KDHRC communications and research specialist, the communications intern will support corporate social media content generation, program dissemination, and additional institutional outreach and health communication efforts. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES • Support, monitor, and expand our presence on various digital media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) • Collaborate and create unique, program-specific digital media content including graphics and short videos • Develop and execute effective digital media strategies designed for increasing media engagement, acquiring followers and hosting brand developmental campaigns. • Establishing digital and in-person partnerships • Identify and contact potential dissemination outlets

PARAMETERS Interns will work a minimum of 10 hours per week and are expected to spend at least one work day in our corporate offices in Midtown. There is the potential for up to 30 hours per week and the ability to work remotely, at times.

Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications for the internship position include: 1) Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree program, specifically in Public Health or Writing/Communications. 2) Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects, and self-manage time. 3) Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. 4) Strong writing, communication, and problem-solving skills. 5) Ability to work both independently and as a team in a fast- paced, deadline- oriented environment. 6) Reliable and secure access to computer and internet. Preferred qualifications include: 1) Proficient in Photoshop and other Adobe creative software. 2) Bilingual (Spanish).

Organization Description: ABOUT KDH RESEARCH & COMMUNICATION KDH Research & Communication (KDHRC) is a non-partisan, public health, and public policy research institution that develops and evaluates programs to improve the health and well-being of the nation’s youth, families, and communities. Our development activities include the construction of interactive curricula, multimedia toolkits to build knowledge and skills, and new media to effectively communicate information. Our evaluation activities focus on the production and dissemination of objective and timely scientific information that addresses public health and public policy problems. KDHRC takes scholarship seriously and presents the results of our research in journal articles and research briefs and at top national conferences. KDHRC has a broad portfolio of grants and contracts from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities, and other agencies and organizations. We use this funding to work in our four program areas: • Drug Abuse Education and Prevention: Investigates emerging trends in substance abuse and measures the effectiveness of social marketing, universal school-based prevention, and science education as methods to reach youth with persuasive information on the risks of illicit drug use. • Health and Science Literacy: Explores creative approaches to help people access, understand, and apply health and science information to make protective decisions about their health and well-being. • Vulnerable Populations: Develops, evaluates, and disseminates programs to improve the health and quality of life of children with special needs and their families, underserved communities, and other vulnerable populations. • Organizational Studies: Identifies and studies strategies for public institutions and nonprofit organizations to deliver health and social services effectively.
