Position Description: The Bureau of Epidemiology, Florida Department of Health is seeking a full-time surveillance epidemiologist specializing in antimicrobial resistance surveillance.

This position is a member of an in interdisciplinary team of epidemiologists an and public health professionals. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate on a variety of high profile public health issues, including communicable disease outbreaks, natural disaster surveillance and response, bioterrorism, and development of surveillance activities to monitor antimicrobial resistance and emergence of an antimicrobial resistance. As a member of this team, the analyst will be involved in the production of scientific reports in including those for publication, presenting at at regional, state and national conferences, and be responsible for grant application contributions.

The analyst will manage large datasets including performing analyses of the hospital discharge database, Department of Health electronic laboratory database and Department of Health reportable disease database (Merlin). The analyst is responsible for performing queries against large relational databases and for monitoring data submissions, performing data cleaning and ensuring data quality, and developing data process flows. The analyst will be responsible for expanding antimicrobial resistance surveillance in Florida including review of data received via electronic laboratory reporting and summarizing antimicrobial resistance data. The analyst will also review antimicrobial resistance data submitted to National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) from Florida based facilities. Work activities include conducting daily reviews of the data from state and regional perspectives, evaluation of electronic laboratory data and the production of quarterly and annual antimicrobial resistance reports including state, regional and facility specific antibiograms antibiograms. The analyst will be responsible to identify trends, anomalies, clusters and potential antimicrobial resistance outbreaks, potential multi-drug resistance organisms, or individual and make appropriate notifications. The analyst will present findings to the state Healthcare as associated Infections Advisory Board, additionally the analyst will represent the Bureau of Epidemiology at statewide and national meetings.

This position will provide epidemiological consultation to county health departments and other partners regarding electronic laboratory reporting, antimicrobial resistance surveillance, assistance during outbreak investigations, and interpretation of laws, rules and statutes related to healthcare-associated infections and public h health preparedness.

Qualifications: Qualifications: The successful candidate will have strong data analysis skill, experience managing large datasets and demonstrated proficiency with analytic software such as SAS, SPSS, R, Access and/or other analytical tools. The successful candidate will have a firm understanding of public health surveillance and relational database construction. Knowledge of laboratory testing and antimicrobial resistance testing strongly preferred. Candidate must be self-directed, able to manage multiple deadlines to complete projects, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. The candidate should have an MPH, MSPH, MS in biostatistics, epidemiology or equivalent degree or an advanced degree in a health-related field (i.e., PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, or other public related field (i.e., PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, or other public-health field; an MD degree; or a DVM degree), including completion of at least three graduate level epidemiology courses and two graduate level biostatistics courses.

The position is part of the Surveillance and Surveillance Systems Section of the Bureau of Epidemiology. The Bureau of Epidemiology leads the Department of Health's efforts to prevent infectious and chronic diseases through surveillance, case and outbreak investigation, training and information dissemination. We do a lot of good work, we are appreciated by the County Health Departments, we publish the best work we do, we attract grant funds, and we work well together.
