Position Description: This position will be housed within the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention and Tobacco Control (BCDPTC), which is in the DOHMH’s Division of Prevention and Primary Care. The BCDPTC strives to reduce the burden of chronic disease on New Yorkers, including heart disease and stroke, cancer, and diabetes, with a particular focus on reducing gaps in health equity. The Bureau leads changes to systems, policies, and environments and provides New Yorkers with information and resources to help them make healthy choices. The Bureau focuses on addressing three key risk factors that lead to chronic disease - poor nutrition, inadequate physical activity, and tobacco use - while also working to leverage clinical tools and settings to promote public health. This position is funded from a Centers for Disease Control and Promotion (CDC) grant supported through 2021, but is contingent upon the availability of federal funding and successful annual reapplication for continued funding. Specifically, this position sits in the Healthy Eating unit at DOHMH, which develops new models for encouraging healthy eating through education and strategies directed at a range of venues, such as schools, hospitals, and restaurants. Key programmatic activities include developing and leading the National Salt Reduction Initiative, MenuStat, NYC Food Standards, and Good Choice.

FPHNYC seeks a Food Standards Coordinator. The program aims to increase access to lower sodium food options and reduce sodium intake and to improve the overall healthfulness of foods. The primary responsibility of this position will be to provide technical assistance to venues working to implement the NYC Food Standards which will require travel throughout NYC boroughs. The Food Standards Coordinator will be a key member of a fast-paced team that develops and executes innovative approaches to changing the food environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES • Identify and recruit organizations to support expansion of NYC Food Standards in new venues such as higher education campuses and other institutional settings • Develop and provide tailored technical assistance to venues to assist with implementation of the NYC Food Standards, including menu review, nutrition analysis, site visits and assessments, progress tracking, product research, and material development • Manage relationships with hospitals and higher education campuses that implement the NYC Food Standards • Support Good Choice distributor product reviews to determine compliance with the NYC Food Standards, and coordinate related research and evaluation projects as needed • Serve as a representative of DOHMH with local stakeholders and work closely with external partners to provide training, education, and technical assistance on the NYC Food Standards • Keep abreast on current academic research on nutrition and diet related diseases (e.g. cardiovascular disease and diabetes) • Perform other duties as assigned, such as

Qualifications: • Registered Dietitian strongly preferred • Master’s degree in public health, public policy, nutrition or related field from an accredited college or university and at least 2 years of professional experience preferred • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, creative thinking, and follow through • Ability to balance multiple projects at once in a fast-paced work environment • Ability to translate and present nutrition data clearly and effectively to external stakeholders • Superior writing skills and ability to communicate effectively • Ability to present to both large and small audiences at internal and external meetings • Knowledge of the Microsoft Suite, including PowerPoint and Excel
