Position Description: The Regional Health Officer provides clinical ove oversight and support for public health programs, such as STD, TB, Immunizations, Substance Abuse Treatment, and Family Planning in clinics, correctional settings (Metropolitan Detention Center), and in outreach settings. In addition, the position provides leadership, supervision and workforce workforce development by reviewing supervisee act activities, and adjusting expectations needed to assure good performance and accountability, sound organizational management, and optimal performance performance of essential public health services. As As needed, the position provides quality clinical s services for individual clients, and enhances com community health by teaching medical students, r residents, community provides, and NMDOH staff as w well as engaging in projects with community par partners to identify critical public health pr problems, develop interventions to address them, an and promote sound public health policy.

The incumbent will also work with other Regional Health Officers, Regional Directors, Bureau Chiefs Chiefs, and Central and Regional staff, as well as as other organizations (e.g., schools) to provide public health direction for the state.

Qualifications: Medical Degree from an accredited medical school and six (6) years in the licensed practice of medicine is required. Must be licensed in accordance with the Medical Practice Act, Sections 61-6-1 through 61-6-35 NMSA 1978, and 16.10.1 through 16.10.19 NMAC, as applicable.

The Department provides a statewide system of of Health Promotion and Community Health Im Improvement, Chronic Disease Prevention, In Infectious Disease Prevention, Injury Prevention and oth and other Public Health services. Prevention and early i early intervention strategies are implemented th through the Department's local Public Health Of Offices and contracts with community providers.

The health care system is strengthened through Department activities including contracted Primary and Rural Health care services, school-b based health centers, Emergency Medical Services, S Scientific Laboratory services, Vital Records and Health Statistics.

Additional Information: Working Conditions: Services are provided in communities, clinics, auxiliary site settings and in the homes of consumers to a diverse racial and ethnic population, many who do not speak English Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to fifty (50) pounds may be required. Potential exposure to communicable diseases. Travel to provide outreach and coverage to attend training sessions and meetings with the occasional overnight stay is required.
