Position Description: The Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness at Penn State University (Clearinghouse) seeks an Assistant Research Professor to foster the visibility and impact of the unit’s research portfolio. Working with our current research faculty, this Assistant Research Professor position will focus on advancing our research and the development of high-quality scholarship that will be accepted in relevant outlets such as academic journals, conference presentations, seminars, and the like. With more than 15 active projects and numerous completed projects, the Clearinghouse offers a wide range of publishing opportunities. This position will periodically require involvement in ongoing project activities. However, the expectation is that the primary responsibility for this position will involve the advancement of research scholarship. Specific activities will include collaboration with other Clearinghouse investigators around conducting data analyses, preparation of manuscripts, and other research products. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree in a social science field (e.g., psychology, human development, or family studies). The Clearinghouse seeks a strong writer, with a successful track record of publishing in scientific journals. Strong data analytic skills and knowledge of military culture and military families, or a military background are a plus.

Organization Description: The Clearinghouse is an applied research center, nationally recognized for its work, that focuses on improving the health and well-being of military service members and their families. Currently, the Clearinghouse has active research projects with the Department of Defense, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. Projects focus on topics such as parenting, building family resilience, preventing family violence, enhancing child and youth development, suicide prevention, obesity prevention, evaluation of mental health treatments for service members, veteran transitions from military to civilian life, and families at risk, among numerous others. Our current staff of approximately 60 individuals has a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds and interests. Thus, there will be significant opportunity to form unique and interesting collaborations.
