Position Description: McKing Consulting Corporation is currently searching for a Study/Patient Coordinator to work in our Atlanta Project Office in support of the National ALS Biorepository, a part of the National ALS Registry program with the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. The Study/Patient Coordinator will be responsible for ongoing recruitment and consent of participants for the collection of biospecimens (blood/urine), saliva (Oragene) and postmortem specimens. This position requires diverse tasks to be accomplished including phone or email contact with potential and enrolled participants, coordinating collection of biospecimen samples, and entering data into database to track communications and daily progress. We anticipate enrolling 325-600 participants per year for in-home collections and 20-30 participants for the postmortem collection. Responsibilities include:

• Conduct follow-up calls to enrollees receiving information packets to determine interest in participating in biorepository

• Speak with potential participants by phone to answer questions, obtain informed consent, and schedule collection of specimens

• Document participant progress on checklist and file appropriate hard copy documentation

• Schedule phlebotomist to conduct blood/urine collections in participants’ homes

• Label collection kits for specific participants

• Conduct quality assurance checks on assembled biospecimen and saliva collection kits

• Troubleshoot any problems that arise with the collection appointment (i.e., rescheduling, questions from phlebotomist, tracking missing shipments)

• Contact postmortem participants quarterly to get an update on disease progression

• Monitor supply of in-house collection kits and reorder as needed

• Verify data from specimen collection forms

• Communicate with participant about collection appointments, follow-up information, and thank you letter

• Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications: Required Skills: • Master’s Degree in health science with at least 3 years of similar experience OR Bachelor’s degree in health science with at least 5 years of similar experience

• Experience working with study participants

• Experience obtaining informed consent from study participants

• Experience working with and safeguarding private information

• Ability to work well in a team environment

• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills

• Strong organization skills to maintain tracking and participant files

• Detail-oriented

• Experience working in Excel and Access

• Able to work a flexible schedule when necessary

• Experience working with people who have serious medical conditions

• Experience working with patients in end-of-life settings
