Position Description: Find Great People, LLC is retained to assist SC DHEC in their search for 2 Communicable Disease Physicians to join their team.

Under limited supervision serves as Medical Consultant to programs within the Bureau of Communicable Disease Control and Prevention (BCDPC). Provides medical leadership/guidance and assures processes for science based decisions and, if needed, consults with the State Epidemiologist/Assistant State Epidemiologist. Performs duties requiring broad skills in acute disease epidemiology, public health preventive medical practice, and communicable diseases. Represents the DADE at state and national meetings as medical expert (includes legislative and interagency efforts).

CONSULTATION: Provides medical and epidemiologic consultation and training to the DADE, Public Health Regions, other public health professionals, health care providers, and the public for surveillance and control of communicable diseases in general. Consults with the CDC and other public health partners. Provides medical consultation and leadership to BCDPC staff for development of policies, procedures, guidance documents and standing orders with a focus on science-based decisions, legal mandates, and public health practice. Assists with preparing grant applications and reports. Serves as consultant for DADE on call rotation (during working hours, nights, weekends, and holidays) for disease reporting and emergency response. Serves as occasional back up to region medical director.

PUBLIC HEALTH PRACTICE: Monitors and investigates cases and outbreaks of vaccine reportable diseases and other reportable diseases. Directs outbreak control measures in cooperation with DHEC staff and other medical practitioners. Assists with the analysis and interpretation of disease surveillance data. Assists in using Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) principles to evaluate surveillance and response processes with a focus on science-based strategies. Participates in planning acute communicable disease prevention and control interventions in disaster response planning, and in policy development to include the areas of emergency preparedness, pandemic influenza, mass casualty, and other public health emergencies. Serves as preceptor for DHEC Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. Maintains clinical competency in and serves as Medical Consultant for BCDPC Clinical Programs, to include Immunizations, STD/HIV and Tuberculosis.

LEADERSHIP: Represents the agency on state, national, and agency committees, as necessary. Interprets guidance from federal agencies and other authoritative sources and assist in adapting them for special circumstance in South Carolina. Serves as one (1) of the state's authorities on public health measures for the prevention and control of communicable diseases and reportable conditions.

TRAINING/EDUCATION: Provides training and education programs to DADE and other DHEC staff, to public health professionals, health care providers and the public about surveillance and control of communicable diseases. Assists DHEC Office of Media Relations with providing timely and accurate information about public health issues proactively and response to media request.

Qualifications: Minimum and Additional Requirements State Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited medical school, plus completion of a residency in a primary care and/or preventive medicine specialty. Licensed or eligible to practice medicine in South Carolina. Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Additional Comments DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
