Position Description: Ci3 is seeking a Research Professional to work closely with its three labs (the Game Changer Chicago Design Lab, the Transmedia Story Lab, and the Design Thinking Lab), research team, communications and policy personnel, and affiliated faculty to direct its program of LGBTQ health and HIV/STI research, including the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Interventions (ATN Study Site 151), Work-to-Prevent project and career programing. The Research Professional will have a strong interest in HIV/STI prevention and treatment intervention design and assessment, socio-ecological and community-based approaches to understanding and examining adolescent HIV infection and transmission, behavioral and social science research, LGBTQ health, and racial/ethnic health disparities. The Research Professional should be experienced in clinical or behavioral intervention, theories of behavior change, community-based research, HIV/AIDS prevention strategies, and working with sexual and gender minority adolescents and young adults of color. The Research Professional will support ongoing and new research projects; participate in study design and implementation; contribute expertise in grant development; and prepare manuscripts for publication and conference presentations.

Responsibilities:

•Principal contributions of the Research Professional include providing research leadership/oversight, methodological knowledge, and research experience to the LGBTQ health and HIV/STI research program •The position performs senior level research related duties and tasks associated with conducting private and federally funded research projects •The position will serve a lead role in research projects; assist with project design; oversee implementation of project including planning new procedures; adapting existing procedures to the needs of the project; and making significant contributions to methodology and analytic planning •The position oversees data collection, evaluation, and analysis; designs and manages databases; writes reports, articles, and manuscripts; and presents research findings at meetings and conferences, as well as to funding agencies •The Research Professional will manage other administrative aspects of the LGBTQ and HIV/STI research program, including supervising research and program support personnel, tracking project expenditures, participating in funding negotiations, grant reporting, and manuscript preparation •The Research Professional will be expected to develop independent and collaborative grant proposals and projects within the purview of the Ci3 LGBTQ health portfolio

Qualifications: Education, Experience and Certifications:

•Doctoral level degree (PhD, EdD) in Health, Community, or Social Psychology, Public Health, Applied Health Sciences, Health Education and Behavior, Social Work, or closely related field required •A minimum of four to seven years of HIV/STI-related research experience •A minimum of one-year postdoctoral training •A strong background in STI and HIV/AIDS prevention, particularly among adolescent populations and communities of color •A strong commitment to adolescent sexual and reproductive health, and asset-based approaches to adolescent development •Behavioral intervention research and prevention programming •Community-based approaches to research and structural-level intervention design and implementation •Proven track record of manuscript publication and/or conference presentations •Familiarity with federally-funded research project management and reporting •Experience working within research networks, collaboratives, or multisite studies •Experience assisting research and program personnel with dissemination of findings, outcomes, and program evaluations •Proven success in the preparation and submission of independent and collaborative grant proposals •Supervisory skills •A minimum of two years of relevant HIV/STI-related research experience •Advanced knowledge of research techniques or methods, with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: qualitative evaluation, statistics, intervention study design, and/or survey design •Expertise in regulatory policy compliance and procedures, including data security •Demonstrated competence in preparing academic manuscripts and grant proposals •Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with and lead a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse setting •Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment •Demonstrated experience serving as the research leader on interdisciplinary research teams •Experience in preparation of foundation and federal grant proposals

Technical Knowledge or Skills:

Organization Description: Established at the University of Chicago in 2012, Ci3 is a university-wide center that aims to empower young people and change the policies and systems that impair their well-being. Focused on sexual and reproductive health and the social determinants of health both domestically and globally Ci3 uses a positive youth development approach drawing on young people’s assets to improve adolescent health and wellbeing. The Center is home to three labs—Game Change Chicago Design Lab, the Transmedia Story Lab, and the Design Thinking Lab—that collaborate with youth to develop creative interventions such as games, apps, digital stories and new socio-ecological service systems, informed by rigorous research. Interventions are disseminate in conjunction with Ci3’s communications and policy teams.
