Position Description: The Immigrant, Refugee and Migrant Health Branch at CDC is recruiting an ORISE Fellowship position for a data analyst that will support the epidemiologic research studies and program evaluation activities within the branch. The Data Analyst will work closely with the branch’s senior e epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and s scientific and administrative personnel in d data cleaning, management, reporting, and a analytics in support of programs and studies a addressing immigrant, refugee and migrant h health. Primary responsibility will be to identify appropriate data elements from branch data sources, create and clean datasets to answer specific research questions, and develop indicators and indicator reports to assess program activities. Additional responsibilities may include conducting literature reviews, providing internal and external communications, and organizing information to support the branch’s sc scientific and programmatic needs. Key duties may include: • Develop familiarity with a r relational database that receives medical d data for 100,000 immigrants and refugees a annually • Identify key data elements from data s sources and create datasets for staff e epidemiologists and biostatisticians • Create or maintain complex programs t to clean datasets and produce reports • Create data standards for scientific r reports • Develop indicators for program a assessments • Troubleshoot data issues as they a arise • Write supporting documentation The fellow shall receive training opportunities in 1) design and implementation of projects to evaluate overseas and/or domestic programmatic activities design, 2) analysis of disease trends for immigrants refugees, and migrants arriving in United States, 3) other scientific and public health training opportunities as they arise such as assisting with Epi-Aids or outbreak i investigations.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a minimum of a masters-level degree in a scientific field (MSPH preferred), or equivalent professional experience working with health level degree in a scientific field (MSPH preferred), or equivalent professional experience working with health-related data management. Candidate must be proficient in SAS, and have experience working with health-related data. Excellent data management, programming and communication skills, commitment to documentation, and attention to detail are required. Also imperative are the ability to work effectively in a team setting and be flexible and adaptable as needs, priorities, and timelines change. SQL programming experience a plus.
