Position Description: Under the supervision of the Director of Epidemiology, independently develops, manages, analyzes and interprets surveillance, registry, health services utilization data and other population-based data to assess health status and guide community health planning efforts. Provides technical assistance and informatics insights for decision support in identifying strategic uses for information systems and data to support, guide and assess population health initiatives. Applies epidemiologic, statistical and informatics methodologies strategic decisions. Utilizes SQL, Access, SAS, Excel and other software applications for data management and analysis. Prepares public health, epidemiologic and other technical reports for various audiences and purposes. Works with other public health and informatics professionals to assure public health needs and uses of heath information systems and health information exchange data are met. Supports and collaborates with community partners in community based assessment and planning efforts. Oversees epidemiology and informatics related aspects of assigned projects and initiatives, as needed.

Qualifications: Master's degree or higher in public health from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in epidemiology, biostatistics, demography, urban planning, health informatics or similar discipline (must provide official transcripts at time of interview) Two (2) or more years work experience in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, demography, urban planning, health informatics or other types of applied quantitative research.

Demonstrated knowledge in programming using SQL, MS Access and SAS, SPSS or STATA software as well as Microsoft Word and Excel Position requires moderate to heavy local travel for which the employee must possess a valid driver’s license and insured vehicle or otherwise provide an acceptable and reliable means of transportation Completion of the National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) courses to include: FEMA IS-100, 200, 700, and 800 within six (6) months of employment

Organization Description: The Cook County Department of Public Health was established on December 10, 1945 and is the state certified public health agency for Cook County with the exception of Chicago, Evanston, Skokie, Oak Park and Stickney Township. CCDPH serves approximately 2.5 million residents in 125 municipalities and strives to meet the public health needs of our suburban Cook County jurisdiction through effective and efficient disease prevention and health promotion programs.

Our network approach to protecting and promoting health brings residents, partners and resources together to address issues facing our communities. We work to prevent the spread of about 70 reportable communicable diseases and enforce Cook County and Illinois public health laws, rules and regulations. Because of all the epidemiological information we gather and analyze, we are a major source of information about the priority health needs in each community in suburban Cook County which helps our agency, partners and the public, plan for and address emerging health threats, and promote healthy living through awareness, education, programs and community development.
