Position Description: General Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze published, unpublished, and other open source internet- based information on disease-related topics from ministries of health, WHO, CDC, ECDC, OIE, relevant regional, national, and non-governmental organizations, as well as media sources

• Investigate, validate and concisely synthesize available information on acute outbreak events while under pressure of a daily news alert deadline

• Develop and validate novel sources of epidemiological information relevant to our client base

• Continuously update, revise, and add to the existing database content

• Work on autonomous projects while functioning effectively as part of a matrixed cross-trained team that fosters flow of data and information into the appropriate work flow

Applicant Information

The position is located in our Rosslyn (Arlington), VA office and is easily accessible via public transportation. Competitive applicants will be required to complete a 1-2 hour standardized written test to evaluate several of the qualifications listed in this posting.

This is a salaried full-time position that includes highly competitive compensation, medical benefits, and a 401(k) retirement plan. The position does not offer relocation expenses and we anticipate a start-date rapidly upon acceptance of an offer. Applicants offered a position with Shoreland will be required to furnish proof of eligibility to legally work in the US within 3 days of the start date. Shoreland, Inc. will not sponsor visas for this position.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant field such as infectious diseases, tropical medicine, epidemiology, occupational health, global health or public health. A degree in library science or a clinical qualification, if combined with previous highly relevant work experience, will also be considered.

• Ability to correctly interpret statistical abstracts/yearbooks, public health reports, epidemiological bulletins, and similar media

• Ability to interpret and construct curves, tables, and graphs to represent incidence, prevalence, and other epidemiological data

• Literacy and familiarity with global geography (names/locations of major countries, regions, capitals, etc.)

• Under pressure of daily deadlines be able to write concise reports in grammatically correct English

• Current use of, and strong proficiency, in the most recent version of MS Excel

Desirable Attributes

• International travel experience or residence overseas

• Previous demonstrated aptitude for research and analysis of medical data and database management in a work, internship, or thesis setting

• Strong detail orientation
