Position Description: This individual will serve as a Drinking Water Quality Investigation Sanitarian for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Environmental Health, Toxicology and Response Section, Drinking Water Investigation Unit. This individual will implement drinking water sampling protocols in order to investigate the source of chemical contamination, oversee the implementation of drinking water sampling protocols, assure that all aspects of collection, labeling, and delivery of samples are properly implemented, ensure analytical data are logged and managed according to established protocols, and summarize and report results as tables, graphs, figures, maps, and/or text for each sampling event. This position will interact with the public, local health department staff, local or state building and code compliance staff, local public works staff, and contractual staff to implement remediation of in-home sources of chemical contaminants to drinking water. This position will be required to maintain a DEH-HHS Elevated Blood Level Investigator certification.

Key duties of the position include: Conducting investigations of tap water in homes and of private water supplies; correctly implementing water sampling procedures; assist in determining the source of the contaminant and provide recommendations for preventing human exposure. Maintaining accurate and well- organized records. Preparing reports summarizing drinking water data from individual sampling events.

Qualifications: Education Possession of a bachelor's degree in the physical or biological sciences, sanitary science, or environmental health. Experience Environmental Sanitarian 9 No specific type or amount is required.

Environmental Sanitarian 10 One year of professional experience in the enforcement of environmental health laws equivalent to an Environmental Sanitarian 9.

Environmental Sanitarian P11 Two years of professional experience in the enforcement of environmental health laws equivalent to an Environmental Sanitarian, including one year equivalent to an Environmental Sanitarian 10.
