Position Description: The Maryland Department of Health (MDH), Prevention and Health Promotion Administration, Infectious Disease Prevention and Health Services Bureau, is recruiting for a full-time (40 hours per week) Epidemiologist/Evaluation Specialist to support viral hepatitis prevention programs. This position will assist in and/or carry out epidemiologic and program evaluation activities, including analysis of statewide data to describe trends and evaluate changes in viral hepatitis prevention and health services outcomes. As part of a team, this position will help ensure viral hepatitis data quality and will support epidemiology data requests, data matching, and reports.

The purpose of this position is to coordinate data integration and quality assurance for Maryland Department of Health’s Center for Viral Hepatitis. This includes building user-friendly interfaces with current data systems, maintaining quality control and data cleaning, coordinating data submissions, developing statistical reports, and providing technical assistance to local, State, and federal stakeholders.

This is a contractual full-time position funded through the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) with some benefits available. The salary for this position is in the mid $50’s to mid $60’s, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in public health, statistics, biological, medical, health science, data analytics, information systems, or related field with strong computer processing skills (e.g. SAS, Microsoft Access, Excel). Requires 2 years of experience (work experience following the completion of graduate work is preferred). Must have strong analytical, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills. Experience with epidemiologic and health services data (e.g. surveillance systems, clinical data registries, electronic health records and/or patient cohort databases) is strongly preferred.
