Position Description: The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) Chief Epidemiologist is responsible for the investigation and description of the determinants and distribution of disease, disability, and other health outcomes and development of the means for prevention and control. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Qualifications: The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in biology, public health or a related field; plus five years of experience in communicable disease control, epidemiology, environmental science or a related field, including two years in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.

Hiring Official Preferences: Prefer a Ph.D. in Epidemiology or related field. Must have experience preparing and presenting graduate level instruction on public health topics to epidemiology students and colleagues. Must have experience working as a member of a disease outbreak response team. Must be able to be on-call after hours and on weekends as part of a rotation. May require occasional in-state and out-of-state travel.
