JOB DESCRIPTION:

The CDC Foundation seeks candidates for a full time epidemiologist focused on evaluations of new vaccine (primarily typhoid and cholera vaccine) implementation projects. Responsibilities include conducting monitoring and evaluation activities (programmatic feasibility, coverage, effectiveness and impact) for new vaccine introductions supported by Gavi (the Vaccine Alliance). The primary duties will pertain to epidemiological and research studies including designing and management of data systems and analytic databases for related to new vaccines, primarily typhoid and cholera vaccines. Current projects include a typhoid vaccine implementation project in India, a polio and cholera vaccine co- administration study in Bangladesh, cholera vaccine stockpile deployments monitoring and evaluation activities, and other studies. This position is full time and will involve approximately 25% international travel, with minimal domestic travel. This position is only one year with the possibility to renew based on funding

The position will be hired by the CDC Foundation and assigned to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Clifton campus in Atlanta, Georgia. The position will be located in the Center for Global Health’s Global Immunization Division (GID) Vaccine Introduction Team (VIT). Responsibilities

Support and participate in designing, planning, and monitoring and evaluation activities related to new vaccine implementation projects. Support project activities including field support for trainings, planning and implementation of activities. Serve as a data management epidemiologist working closely with other team members on designing and management of data systems and analytic databases. Disseminate results of research projects in a wide range of venues including publications, peer reviewed journals, summaries, manuscripts, and special reports and may present results to the scientific community at professional meetings and conferences. Performs other duties as assigned that are directly related to this position.

Qualifications: Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, or related field, with at least 3 years of experience. Strong skills in SAS programming language, and the ability to address, research and solve complex data management challenges independently. Required SAS skills include, 1) Import from external data source: access, excel, stata, text/csv, non-SAS optimized data sources, 2) Merging and setting files, 3) data step skills (e.g. dates, coding/recoding, creating new variables, keep/drop, do loops), 4) permanent format library, 5) produce reports Experience working with large analytic datasets and prior experience with data management Technical skills to conduct analyses, write reports, prepare briefings, and coherently present results. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and ability to collaborate with others on projects and investigations. Flexibility and sensitivity working with international partners. Ability to think critically and analyze findings, as well as recognize emergent situations as they arise. Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet and professional manner. Knowledge of research design and implementation.
