Position Description: Serve as a program coordinator and the Business Manager for the $20 million plus per year AIDS Malignancy Consortium and related programs within the UCLA Clinical AIDS Research and Education (CARE) Center. The incumbent will serve as a primary liaison for the Principal Investigator between the Office of Contracts & Grants Administration (OCGA), Extramural Fund Management (EFM), other accounting staff, NCI Office of AIDS Malignancy (OHAM) and the NCI grants office, and the Divisional MSO. In addition the position will work closely with the AMC Operations and Data Management Center at the EMMES Corporation and their business/contracting/accounting services. The Business Manager will oversee the setup and renewal of approximately 40-50 sub awards for AMC and ANCHOR sites, oversee per subject and milestone payments. The Business Manager will be the primary contact between the sites and UCLA for all business matters. The incumbent will oversee all other business/financial aspects of post-award activities including any subcontracts, purchasing agreements, financial expenditures, and fund close-outs. The incumbent will be responsible for routine UCLA fund management functions related to AMC award. In particular he/she will keep the AMC Principal Investigator continually and fully aware of the AMC grant financial standing, keeping track of spend rates, expected expenditures and projected balances throughout the year. This information will be used by the PI and the AMC Executive Committee for protocol and other group planning purposes. The position will serve as lead for all AMC Supplemental award submissions, other AMC related submissions and reports, as well as competitive renewal of the award. The incumbent will be active in the AMC Executive Committee and participate in the twice yearly AMC meetings.

Qualifications: At least 3 years experience managing finances for NIH-funded grants. Ability to manage, organize, plan and follow through on projects in order to effectively set priorities and meet deadlines. Excellent English-language communication skills, both oral and written. Demonstrated skill in financial analysis and planning. Skill in acting on own initiative, performing independently in a variety of situations involving diverse individuals and multiple domestic and international institutions. Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret institutional policies and procedures. Ability to develop collaborative relationships and mentor personnel at partner institutions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships in a complex and sensitive working environment; working as part of a team with staff on different levels in other areas within the organization. High level of expertise in operating Windows-based computers using electronic mail, Internet, word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation programs. Knowledge and experience in working in large, clinical trials cooperative group. Experience in the conduct and oversight of biomedical clinical trials. Preferred: Interest in HIV, cancers, sexual and reproductive health, and international health. Proficiency in foreign language (particularly Spanish).
