Position Description: ABOUT THE POSITION We are seeking a Health Communications Specialist to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of the U.S. population. As a leader in nationwide efforts to ease the burden of cancer, CDC’s Division of Cancer Prevention and Control (DCPC) works with national cancer organizations, state health agencies, and other key groups to develop, implement, and promote effective strategies for preventing and controlling cancer. The National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) Division of Cancer Prevention and Control is a national program for the prevention and control of cancer and promotes the overall health of the population. In carrying out this mission, the Center conducts surveillance, epidemiologic studies, and funds public health agencies at the state and local level to carry out programs that prevent and control chronic diseases and promote health behaviors at every stage of life. The Division also provides national leadership in the development, evaluation, and dissemination of effective health promotion, and risk reduction programs.

The requirement for the Health Communications Specialist is to provide Policy and Communications support services within the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control. The Health communications work will include working with programs to determine communications messages, promotion of scientific studies, messages for external audiences, and highlights of accomplishments and successes. The Health Communications Specialist shall provide support to the Division as follows:

• Provide writing, editing, graphic design, and training support for social media campaigns • Develop content for CDC’s Breast Cancer Facebook (FB) and Pinterest pages • Develop up to 10 media kits and press releases • Disseminate plans for product placement in print and online media to branches and division staff • Plan and organize up to 5 webinars/conference calls • Write materials for publication and presentation, to include, but not limited to data visualizations, data sheets, fact sheets and PowerPoint presentations • Develop, produce, and disseminate cancer fact sheets for a variety of audiences, scientists, health care and other public health professionals and
