Position Description: JOB OVERVIEW -- Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow to work on urban health in the US and Latin America.

The fellow will work on an NIH-funded project related to the scaling of health outcomes in cities, under the supervision of Dr. Usama Bilal, Assistant Research Professor of Epidemiology (www.usamabilal.info). The fellow with also have the opportunity to collaborate with other faculty at the Urban Health Collaborative and Dornsife School as well as with faculty engaged in multisite and collaborative projects locally, nationally, and internationally. Experience working with vital statistics and cross-sectional surveys, conducting multilevel and spatial analyses as well as longitudinal analyses is desirable.

This work will leverage existing data sources on all urban agglomerations above 100,000 people in the US and 11 Latin American countries, to analyze how a variety of health outcomes scale with city size or city growth, and what factors predict these scaling behaviors. The fellow will have the opportunity to lead publications and develop their own research ideas. The fellow will be expected to work collaboratively with other researchers in the Salud Urbana en America Latina (SALURBAL) study and the Retail Environment and Cardiovascular Disease (RECVD) project.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions include conducting data analyses and writing papers as lead or co-author, presenting results at scientific meetings, developing new research ideas linked to the general project themes, and actively participating in collaborative research meetings.

START DATE: Prefer start date sometime during Fall 2018. However, start date may be flexible.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in epidemiology, demography, or the social sciences with a strong quantitative background and good communication skills. Individuals are strongly encouraged to apply if they have training and research experience in the analysis of vital statistics, cross- sectional surveys, multilevel and spatial analyses, and are interested in furthering their expertise and publications in the area of social epidemiology and urban health.

Organization Description: The fellow will be housed in the Urban Health Collaborative (http://drexel.edu/uhc/), a collaboration of all departments in the Drexel Dornsife School of Public Health, with unique mentoring and networking opportunities. The fellow will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers across multiple institutions to conduct analyses and write papers. The fellow will have ample opportunities will be available for mentoring, interacting with collaborators, and career development. The fellow will meet weekly or biweekly with their mentor. Financial support will be available for travel to present results at scientific meetings.
