Position Description: The Pew Charitable Trusts is driven by the power of knowledge to solve today's most challenging problems. Pew applies a rigorous, analytical approach to improve public policy, inform the public and invigorate civic life.

We are an independent nonprofit organization – the sole beneficiary of seven individual trusts established between 1948 and 1979 by two sons and two daughters of Sun Oil Company founder Joseph N. Pew and his wife, Mary Anderson Pew.

Our work lays the foundation for effective policy solutions by informing and engaging citizens, linking diverse interests to pursue common cause and insisting on tangible results. Our projects encourage efficient, responsive governments – at the local, state, national, and international levels – serving the public interests.

With offices in Philadelphia, Washington DC, Australia, Brussels, and London, and with additional staff in other regions of the United States and around the globe, Pew provides an exciting learning environment and the opportunity to work with highly talented individuals. We are a dynamic, rapidly evolving organization that values creativity and innovative thinking and fosters strong teamwork with mutual respect.

Project Overview Pew's health programs utilize research and critical analysis to improve the public's health and well-being. The health care products project works to enhance the safety and effectiveness of medical products routinely purchased by Americans, including compounded drugs, over-the-counter medications, dietary supplements, and other products regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.

While the research agenda may evolve to meet the needs of the project, it will primarily involve qualitative research, including guided interviews, convenings, data collection instruments, focus groups, and polling as well as reviews of relevant literature. o Develop, execute, and manage contracts to support research efforts. o Follow quality control processes to ensure project research products meet the highest standards of rigor and accuracy. o Work with communications staff to implement effective dissemination techniques for research products. o Identify opportunities to improve the regulation of other FDA-regulated products; conduct research to show the scope of the problem and policy potential solutions • Contribute to the project's legislative efforts: • o Track developments in federal policy related to FDA-regulated products. o Proactively identify and monitor the positions of influential stakeholders and thought leaders on key policy issues. o Provide support for and on occasion prepare talking points, issue briefs, fact sheets, presentations, and other documents relevant to policy deliberations and easily digested by policy makers, media, and the public. o Contribute to the campaign strategy of the project, including assisting in advocacy activities. • Contribute to and participate in tasks of the project and department as assigned as well as broader Pew-wide projects and committees as needed.
