Position Description: Do you have experience creating or managing web sites? Do you look for ways to solve communication challenges with the latest web- based tools? Are you a strong communicator? Then, we're looking for you! This is a Regular, Full-time (1.0 FTE).

The Digital Communications Specialist will use advanced communications skills across multiple platforms to further the agency's strategic public health communication goals. The incumbent will promote and maintain the department's website, a Vision Internet managed site, to keep it current and relevant to the public. This includes ensuring WCAG 2.0 accessibility compliance using built-in CMS tools, and ensuring the majority of web content is at the 8th grade reading level or lower. As a secondary focus, the position will contribute to the Department's intranet site, in SharePoint. With advanced developer skills, the person will also follow best practices to integrate other functionalities, such as GIS mapping and emerging applications, and offer some programming leadership to help protect our investment in the website. The Digital Communications Specialist will represent the Communications Office (part of Office of the Director) with excellent customer service, strong strategic thinking, and commitment to high quality standards.

What you bring to the table: •Keep the site current and relevant – Ensure updated content with accurate and timely information, new events and images, active social media and blogs; manage process to ensure broken links are fixed. •Website promotion and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – Use internet marketing strategies to boost search engine ratings for our site and products. •Analytics – Analyze data to understand how customers access and interact with our website, recommend and make changes to improve UX, including optimization for most used devices. •Accessibility - Ensure content is easily understandable for the target audience and meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). •Engagement – Use web technologies to reach and engage specific and hard to reach populations, such as use of public polling function to help achieve communication, community engagement and behavior change objectives. •Technical knowledge –Ensure we use the most relevant new tools Vision Internet, our web site builder, makes available. Knowledge of HTML and CSS will assist with troubleshooting the CMS, and advanced SharePoint tools, such as Designer and InfoPath, will help our agency maximize the capability and usage of its intranet and its potential to interface with our public- facing website. •Development--Uses best practices to integrate additional functionalities, such as GIS mapping and JavaScript APIs that aid in communicating data. Stays up-to-date on web technologies and leverages new tools to keep the site relevant, accessible, and customer-focused. •Governance and records management – Strong governance leadership to ensure content is up-to-date and out-of-date information is recorded and retired. •Ensure timely and accurate information -Communicate with liaisons and program subject matter experts. Exercise appropriate independent judgment in quick turnaround, high-pressure situations, with an outcome that portrays or conveys agency's image and aligns with and supports our strategic plan and strategic messages. This may include the need to draft copy for web pages to support specific communication project requests with strong messaging expertise (visual and written). •Customer focus – Provide friendly, professional customer service to internal customers, and professionally represent the Communications Office to external customers. Additional desired advanced skills:•Experience in software design practices for robust, maintainable code. •SharePoint and SharePoint Designer experience.

Qualifications: Who should apply: Bachelor's degree in communications, graphic design, marketing, computer technology, media relations, or closely related field; And, two years of professional level experience; Or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.•Portfolio of work samples is desired. •Ability to successfully pass a background investigation. •Possession of valid Washington State Driver's License and acceptable driver's abstract.
