Position Description: Epidemiologist III performs highly advanced (senior-level) research and epidemiological work in the area of Injury Prevention. Work is performed under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Reports to Manager of Injury Prevention Area. Serves as a team lead for epidemiologists in the Injury Prevention Area. Plans, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of the epidemiology team. Designs, develops, and implements advanced epidemiologic investigations following new or standardized scientific polices/protocols, coordinating studies, collecting, analyzing and evaluating data, and communicating results. Consults with health professionals, researchers, and other epidemiologists within DSHS to define and solve specific problems and to assure quality control across methods, procedures, and statistical analysis. Develops and directs grant-funded projects, generates scientific publications, public health reports and presentation of completed work to agency/program management, and presents at scientific conferences. Participates in cross-functional training within DSHS. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Essential Job Functions: Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

(30%) Serves as a team lead of Injury Prevention Area epidemiology team. Plans, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of epidemiology team. Works with the Injury Prevention Manager with establishing priorities for the team and implementing them. Provides training and assistance to less experienced staff with analysis and report creation.

(25%) Designs, develops, and implements advanced epidemiologic investigations following new or standardized scientific polices/protocols, coordinating studies, collecting, analyzing and evaluating data, and communicating results.

(20%) Consults with health professionals, including the Injury Prevention Manager, researchers, and other epidemiologists within DSHS to define and solve specific problems and to assure quality control across methods, procedures, and statistical analysis.

(20%) Develops and directs grant-funded projects, generates scientific publications, public health reports and presentation of completed work to agency/program management, and presents at scientific conferences. Support data quality and improvement efforts within the EMS (Emergency Medical Services) & Trauma Registries. Identify opportunities for the use and distribution of program data to internal and external stakeholders.

(5%) Participates in cross-functional training within DSHS. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university, with receipt of a Master degree preferred in epidemiology, health or social science, statistics, or a related field. Experience using SAS for 2 years Experience working as an epidemiologist/researcher for 2 years. Experience analyzing medical data using ICD-9CM and ICD-10CM codes for 2 years. Experience producing public health reports and giving presentations for general public.
