Position Description: Health Security Partners (HSP) is seeking 1-2 driven and passionate individuals to advance our mission to strengthen health security around the world through education, collaboration, and stewardship.

The Health Behavior Education Specialist(s) will work with HSP’s partners in Ethiopia and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to support development of culturally-relevant interventions to reduce the incidence of human brucellosis in pastoral communities of Southern Ethiopia. This is a temporary consultancy with work taking place from January-September 2019 with potential for extension.

Responsibilities All work will be done in collaboration with HSP and CDC. The exact responsibilities are subject to change as the scope is further defined, but may include the following: • Develop and host a weeklong workshop on the principles and practice of successful health behavior interventions. • Mentor Ethiopian partners (remotely and in-person) through development and implementation of proposed interventions. • Oversee implementation of all or some interventions locally. • Provide monitoring and evaluation support for the project. • Represent HSP with government partners, in-country representatives of international agencies, and other identified partners.

This is a part-time contract position funded by an external federal grant. Compensation is based on a daily rate commensurate with experience. Health Security Partners is an equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in public health, education, psychology, or related field required. Master’s or terminal degrees preferred. • At least 5 years’ experience designing and implementing culturally-relevant health behavior education/interventions, preferably in an international setting. • Demonstrated experience teaching courses, conducting workshops, or giving seminars on relevant topics. • Experience engaging with policy makers and/or civic and faith leaders. • Ability to understand concepts and terminology relevant to zoonotic disease transmission and basic microbiology. • Experience living and working in resource-constrained settings; sensitive to varying cultural norms and practices. • Fluency in English required; fluency in Amharic and other languages native to Ethiopia preferred. • Ability to travel to Addis Ababa and southern Ethiopia during the specified time period for 1-3 weeks at a time.
