Position Description: Under supervision from the Senior Epidemiologist, performs an array of routine and ad hoc surveillance tasks with a focus on substance use, chronic disease, and vaccine-preventable disease epidemiology using traditional and non-traditional health data sources (e.g., clinical and administrative datasets). Identifies emerging health issues and monitors the causes and conditions resulting in adverse health effects by developing and maintaining multiple internal and public facing surveillance systems using various reporting tools (e.g., SAS, SQL and Tableau). Consults with internal and external analytic stakeholders to lead and support and in- depth public health analyses including gathering informational and business needs, defining analytic plans and business requirements, conducting analysis, and summarizing findings in a report or presentation format. Partners with Denver Health clinical teams, other public health teams, and regional public health partners to improve analytic capacity by developing shared quality improvement and population health business intelligence tools. Supports proposal development, outbreak response, and preparedness efforts as needed.

Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in community/public health, environmental health, nursing, or related field. Master’s degree in epidemiology or public health preferred Experience: Two years of professional experience in the investigation and/or prevention of communicable or non- communicable diseases. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Proficiency in SAS, SQL, and/or GIS applications highly desirable. Proficiency in MS Office applications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Creative problem solving abilities. Demonstrated ability as a self-starter who can prioritize and conduct multiple activities. The typical candidate will have demonstrated skill as an experienced analyst with a working knowledge of statistical methods. All job applicants for safety-sensitive positions must pass a pre-employment drug test, once a conditional offer of employment has been made.
