NYC Health + Hospitals’ (H+H) Office of Population Health encompasses care management, chronic disease prevention and management, development of innovative care models, population health analytics, primary care transformation, and research and evaluation.

The Office of Population Health is currently seeking a Data Analyst to provide support for research and evaluation within the Office of Population Health as well as for the New York University (NYU) – NYC H+H Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), an innovative research partnership that supports clinical and translational research that transforms health care and improves community health.

Under the supervision of the Director of Research and Evaluation, the Data Analyst will primarily generate data sets and conduct related analyses to support OPH’s and H+H’s research efforts. Advanced technical and analytical skills, strong knowledge of clinical and health care data, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving are critical qualities for this position. The Data Analyst reports to the Director of Research and Evaluation and will work collaboratively across the Office of Population Health as well as with research staff at external organizations.


• Create secondary data sets from clinical warehouse, registry, claims, and other health care data sources in order to support new and ongoing research

• Assist internal and external staff with data requests related to priority research questions; collaborate with staff to develop and refine project specifications and scopes

• Perform basic statistical analyses as well as reviews for statistical accuracy, validity, and applicability of analytical methods

• Translate research and analysis findings into content for briefing documents, presentations, abstracts, manuscripts, and other materials, as needed

• Liaise and build partnerships within OPH and H+H to support innovative research and analyses to advance population health

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications

A master’s degree in statistics, biomedical informatics, epidemiology, or an equivalent or equally acceptable program, and four or more years of satisfactory, full-time paid experience in conducting clinical informatics or other healthcare data analysis and programming.

Department Preferences

• At least five years of experience in extracting, analyzing, and structuring data from large, complex warehouses of clinical, health, scheduling, financial, and other related data

• Extensive experience creating secondary data sets using diverse data from large warehouses

• Demonstrated agility with common analytic and reporting software, including SAS, SQL, SUDAAN, Stata, R, and Excel

• Experience extracting and working with data from Epic systems

• Eagerness and ability to adapt to new, complex, and imperfect data structures and to solve challenging problems creatively and soundly

• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage multiple, diverse projects at once; accurately pivot between multiple projects; strategize timelines; and manage and meet established project deadlines

• Exceptional attention to detail

• Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate results of analyses to both internal and external partners

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively with internal and external partners

• Demonstrated interest or experience in working on population or public health- related analyses
