Position Description: The purpose of this position is to develop, implement and manage protocols and processes for statewide vaccine preventable disease (VPD) surveillance. The person in this position is responsible for maintaining up-to to-date knowledge of VPD surveillance best practices, coordinating VPD case finding, gathering complete VPD surveillance data, maintaining VPD surveillance data and disseminating VPD surveillance data to key stakeholders for public health use, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). To accomplish the job duties listed above, the VPD Epidemiologist will coordinate public health investigations of VPDs, analyze VPD surveillance data (including vaccine exemptor data) to meet program goals & requirements, collaborate with VPD partners in the state including the NM Immunization Coalition and the Immunization Practices Advisory committee and coordinate grant applications that support VPD surveillance. In addition, the VPD epidemiologist will serve as the daytime on-call epidemiologist for case investigations and outbreak response. This position will serve as the Vaccine Preventable Disease Surveillance Epidemiologist at the New Mexico Department of Health Epidemiology and Response Division Infectious Disease Epidemiology Bureau. The ideal candidate will possess a MPH (or related) degree and experience in public health and infectious disease surveillance and epidemiology.

Qualifications: Master's degree in Public Health, Epidem Epidemiology, Sciences, Social Sciences, or Statis Statistics and two (2) years in Public Health Health to include data analysis and linking method methodology.
