Position Description: DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Position Definition: Lead the coordination and expansion of community health improvement efforts toward improving the Greater Norwalk food system and empowering community members to make healthier food choices.

Example of Duties: Under guidance and supervision of the Health Educator, the person in this position will: • Engage, mobilize, and coordinate community members and other stakeholders (e.g., food retailers, community-based organizations, farmers and farmer's market managers, food assistance/distribution programs, schools, lawmakers) through meetings, written communication, and other outreach. • Identify assets and gaps in the community food system by gathering existing data and collecting additional quantitative and qualitative data where feasible. • Analyze and summarize data, and communicate findings to stakeholders. • Research and explore regional and/or local policy approaches to understand the local food system and address gaps in food security. • Lead stakeholders through the development of a multi-year roadmap/action plan to improve the community food system. • Enhance/expand upon existing healthy eating initiatives, including work to highlight healthy options at retailers and improve the healthfulness of donations at food distribution sites. • Create informational materials for policy makers, the public, and others to advocate for policy, systems and environmental changes that facilitate healthy eating. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, and strong organizational skills. • Ability to plan and facilitate meetings and foster a spirit of collaboration among diverse stakeholders. • Ability to collect, analyze, visualize, and communicate data. • Ability to work on a team and/or independently. • Ability to work flexible schedules preferred. • Ability to speak Spanish preferred.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in public health, public administration, nutrition, or other related degree required. Experience in food systems, community engagement, or public health programs preferred. Ability to use computers and software (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

SPECIAL LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: License: Valid driver's license. Hours: Approximately 12 hours/week. Rate: $25/hour. Dept: Health

This position is dependent on grant funds and is not guaranteed after July 31, 2019. Description of Project Policy, systems, and environmental change are essential to address the complex interactions and challenges of food access, healthy eating, and community health. Many stakeholders often work individually on separate pieces of this puzzle, but a greater impact can be achieved when all these efforts are aligned toward common goals and use data to inform their work. The Norwalk Health Department and the Healthy for Life Project (www.healthyforlifeproject.org) hope to convene partners from multiple sectors, help to strategize a community-wide approach, and enhance existing efforts to improve access to and consumption of healthy foods.
