Position Description: The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) is seeking a dedicated professional to serve as the Substance Abuse Prevention (SAP) Epidemiologist. The SAP Epidemiologist will provide surveillance and analysis of data related to substance use and misuse and associated consequences including medical conditions, mental health conditions, deaths, hospitalizations, etc. The SAP Epidemiologist will use multiple data sources and be responsible for the collection, quality assurance, cleaning, analysis, and reporting of drug abuse- and tobacco use-related data. The SAP Epidemiologist will respond to data requests from community groups, public health agents, other state agencies, the media, and the public and will serve on department and statewide substance abuse prevention working groups. The SAP Epidemiologist will provide regular, clear, accurate, and complete reporting to the WDH, the public, and other agencies, will disseminate epidemiology data in multiple forms to reach broad and varied audiences, and will develop, maintain, and update substance abuse and tobacco use related indicators for programs and on the WDH's website. The SAP Epidemiologist will report directly to the State Epidemiologist and will work closely with the Substance Abuse Prevention and Tobacco Prevention and Control Programs.

The SAP Epidemiologist will join a strong group of epidemiologists at the WDH that includes infectious disease, communicable disease, chronic disease, and maternal and child health epidemiologists with multiple opportunities for collaboration. Professional development activities including attendance and presentations at conferences are encouraged. The position is located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where there are ample opportunities for skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities.
