Position Description: The Associate Director of Health Initiatives, has primary responsibility for enacting the American Kidney Fund’s (AKF) prevention activities across the nation and locally in the Washington, DC area. Specifically, in conjunction with other Associate Directors, this position will be responsible for outreach activities in approximately 15-20 cities each year. The goals of the activities that are part of this effort are to provide education, health screenings and follow-up services for those at risk for kidney disease and increase awareness of the risks of kidney disease to the general public. The Associate Director will also be the lead staff member in charge of at least one Kidney Action Day, which is a large-scale awareness and screening event held annually in select metropolitan areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Identifies community organizations and businesses that serve at-risk populations for the purpose of marketing and scheduling outreach events • Leads service delivery for large scale events, including large partner screenings. Fully responsible for securing venues, overseeing adherence to vendor contracts, ordering and shipping of supplies, arranging travel, identifying potential and cultivating external partnerships, managing volunteers, successfully maintaining sponsor stewardship, and ensuring an overall, high-quality participant experience • Educates at-risk populations about their risks for chronic kidney disease by delivering health messages that are culturally appropriate, easy-to-understand and actionable • Ensures event expenses stay within budget, oversees fulfillment of contracts, ensures programs are implemented according to plan, and enforces organizational policies and procedures. • Identifies opportunities and negotiates for competitive vendor services, including lab fees and other services • Assists data team with adherence to personal health information security requirements • Composes and submits high-quality professional reports, internal and external email messages, and other forms of correspondence in a timely manner • Proactively suggests opportunities for improving community outreach, screening exhibits, and screening processes to the Director of Health Initiatives and Senior Director of Health Initiatives and Education • Collaborates across departments, including Communications, Fundraising, Government Relations, and Operations, to ensure successful screening events • Assists Director of Health Initiatives in working with Fundraising department on reviewing and providing input to grant proposals and ensuring supporting contributors receive the benefits outlined in their sponsorship agreements • Ensures all educational and event materials follow internal branding guidelines • Clearly articulates organization mission and vision, and effectively represents the interests of AKF at appropriate events and partner meetings • Requires 50-60% travel and ability to work evening and weekend hours • Undertakes other duties as assigned to ensure the overall success of the Office of Patient Services and Kidney Disease Education

Qualifications: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor’s degree in health-related field required; Master’s degree in Public Health or related degree a plus • 3 to 5 years’ experience delivering community health programs focused on at- risk populations • Clear understanding of basic principles of public health, preventative care, human anatomy, program implementation, and program evaluation • At least 2-3 years of budgetary and volunteer management experience • Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of Microsoft CRM or similar databases a plus • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills • Demonstrated ability to apply principles and best practices of health communication and health education • Must be well-organized, detail-oriented, proactive, resourceful, adaptable, a self- starter, and an effective problem-solver • Experience in public engagement and delivering presentations to professional and lay audiences • Able to work effectively within a collaborative, team framework, as well as independently • Ability to handle confidential matters with a high level of integrity and maintain materials with PII with utmost care • Event planning experience • Position is located in the AKF National office in Rockville, MD • Valid Driver License required • Ability to lift 30 pounds • Fluency in Spanish a plus, but not required • CHES/MCHES certification a plus
