Position Description: The mission of the Department of Health is to protect and improve the health of people in Washington. This position supports our mission by providing epidemiological research, analysis, and evaluation for stroke care systems within the state. As the Stroke Epidemiologist, you will analyze health data to identify high-risk populations and disparities in stroke care and outcomes and evaluate the effectiveness of the system. You will also have the opportunity to compose scientific papers for submission to peer journals, and for presentations to stakeholders. The Office of Community Health Systems within the Division of Health Systems Quality Assurance works to prevent injuries, develop health systems and improve patient safety. We work closely with communities and local health partners to build strong health systems and prevention programs. This helps ensure that everyone has access to good health care and emergency medical services. This is a full-time, permanent Epidemiologist 2 (non-medical) position.

Qualifications: What will you be doing? – Duties include: Use statistical methods to analyze and evaluate stroke patient care and outcomes. Analyze data to evaluate and identify high- risk populations. Investigate disparities and regional variations in care and outcomes. Design and conduct targeted studies to evaluate program effectiveness and to enhance evidence-based decision making. Disseminate epidemiology data and evaluation results, including statistical findings, using technical reports, fact sheets, stakeholder presentations, department publications, grant applications, professional journal articles, and press releases. Serve as a liaison for the office and division regarding stroke system and care evaluation. Provide data, technical assistance and staff support to DOH committees, workgroups, and strategic initiatives. Prepare written reports of findings for program use. Assists with and consults on state and local quality improvement efforts. What we're looking for Success in this position requires one to be a team player, defined as having a driving passion for the work and data analysis, enjoys taking on new challenges, and coordinating ideas and resources to achieve goals. Required Qualifications Master's degree or higher, with 12 quarter hours in epidemiology, and 12 graduate hours in biostatistics. One (1) year of experience in the following: Collecting, managing, and analyzing health and health care systems data. Evaluating program effectiveness and developing relevant metrics. Using data themes to inform policy. Working with data to serve health system quality improvement strategies and programs. Preferred/Desired Qualifications Six (6) years of experience in applied epidemiology research and analysis. Experience working with health care systems data with overlapping objectives for evaluation, public health epidemiology, and clinical quality improvement. Experience in managing, analyzing, and evaluating stroke data and stroke care systems performance. A Doctoral degree in epidemiology or other health science field.
