Position Description: The Division of Public Health, Communicable Disease Branch is accepting applications for an Epidemiology Program Manager for the SHARPPS Program. The person in this position will work with infection prevention partners, hospitals, physicians, local health departments, laboratories, citizens, media, and others to increase awareness about healthcare- associated infections (HAIs) and to promote evidence-based public health interventions aimed at reducing these HAIs. The person in this position will also serve as the supervisor and manager of the Surveillance for Healthcare Associated and Resistant Pathogens Patient Safety (SHARPPS) Program and Antimicrobial Resistance Coordinator. This position has primary responsibility for the following activities: •Lead and supervise existing positions, and all future positions assigned to the program •Serve as lead epidemiologist, and subject matter expert responsible for surveillance, reporting and epidemiologic investigation related to healthcare associated and antimicrobial resistant pathogens •Lead outbreak response investigations in all types of healthcare settings, specifically investigations into outbreaks of multi-drug resistant organisms •Provide guidance and expert advice for improving HAI program activities at the state and local levels •Develop comprehensive plan for elimination of healthcare associated infections and control of antimicrobial resistant pathogens •Develop and implement a program evaluation plan

Qualifications: •Considerable working knowledge of epidemiologic surveillance data collection, analysis, and interpretation methods. •Considerable working knowledge of various types of surveillance systems and their applications, including National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). •Considerable working knowledge related to healthcare associated infections, to include multi-drug resistant organisms. •Considerable working knowledge of infection control principles and practice. •Working knowledge of information technology systems, particularly as they apply to surveillance systems. •Thorough knowledge of necessary infrastructure to develop and maintain surveillance systems plus the principles, methods, materials, practices and procedures applied in public health operational systems. •Considerable working knowledge of epidemiologic investigation concepts, principles, and practices •Considerable working knowledge of program management and program evaluation principles •Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with the public, hospital infection preventionists, and others •Excellent team building and leadership skills •Excellent computer skills and working knowledge covering a range of application software.

The Communicable Disease Branch of the Division of Public Health primarily deals with infectious diseases that are reportable by law to the state health department, as well as a few other communicable diseases of public health significance, such as influenza, norovirus infection and certain healthcare- associated infections.
