Position Description: Within the Maryland Department of Health's Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control, the Evaluation and Data Team supports the development and implementation of effective chronic disease prevention and control programs by serving as a respected source of information and guidance for all data- related needs. As part of this team, the Epidemiologist I will support state and local chronic disease initiatives. An Epidemiologist I is the entry level of work assisting in the design, conduct and analysis of epidemiological studies and investigations for disease surveillance in a headquarters program of the Maryland Department of Health. The incumbent analyzes data to assess population health status, trends, and disparities; provides epidemiological recommendations to Center staff and partners; assists in the development and evaluation of chronic disease prevention and control measures; and prepares data for and/or develops reports, presentations, and other documents. The Epidemiologist also provides data oversight for the Multi- state EHR-based Network for Disease Surveillance (MENDS) project and prepares data for use by partners in program decision making. This position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics. A copy of your transcript must be attached to the application.

Experience: None.


Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio-Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The preferred candidate will have experience in public health epidemiology, experience using SAS, and strong writing skills.
