Position Description: Key Responsibilities: • Oversees and manages the operations of the Chemical, Aquatic Biology, Chemical Terrorism, Quality Assurance and Radiochemistry Laboratories. This includes budget management, proper testing assurance, seeking out and obtaining new testing, building effective teams and any other appropriate task deemed necessary by the Public Health Laboratory Director. • Participates and provides information for cost studies concerning the Environmental Laboratories. • Stays informed of current and proposed legislation affecting the Environmental Laboratories of DLS. • Acts as a liaison for business activity conducted between Laboratory Services and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. • Works with key staff to ensure that the Environmental Laboratory remains fully certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 4 for drinking water testing and by ISO 17025 for non-drinking water testing.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or an acceptable related Chemical/Environmental Science field. • A doctorate degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or an acceptable related Chemical/Environmental Science field is preferred. Required Qualifications: • Five years of professional, full- time experience in chemical or environmental science. *Doctorate course work received from an accredited college or university in Chemistry, Biochemistry or an acceptable related Chemical/Environmental Science field may substitute for the required experience on a year-to-year basis to a maximum of two years (e.g. 24 graduate semester hours or 36 graduate quarter hours may substitute for one year of the required experience). • Three years of professional, full- time experience in laboratory supervision.
