Position Description: The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) is is a progressive public health leader pr providing services that promote population he health, protect public health and the en environment, and ensure residents' access to he health services and information. The Di Division of Epidemiology and Population He Health is currently seeking a highly mo motivated Communicable Disease Ep Epidemiologist to join their team.

The Communicable Disease Epidemiologist independently performs professional epidemiology work by analyzing, interpreting and presenting epidemiological data and conducts research projects or implements surveillance systems. Responsible for the study, surveillance and investigation of all communicable disease conditions in the county. Develops and maintains district wide disease incidence tracking system that responds to changing technology and updates in data collection and analysis approaches. Designs and implements epidemiologic studies to characterize targeted disease outbreaks and disease cluster and contact investigations. The incumbent will focus on all communicable diseases particularly those listed on the Virginia Reportable list or designated by the VDH Disease Surveillance and Investigation Division as requiring local health department surveillance and control. Coordinates the epidemiologic public health response during a disease outbreak or a bioterrorism event, in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of senior epidemiologists, and under the guidance of the Medical Epidemiologist.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in public health (MPH) or master of science (MS) with graduate work in epidemiology and/or biostatistics plus two years of experience in epidemiology-related work work.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's l license. AED-Required within 60 days CPR -Required within 60 days

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be req required to complete a criminal background che check, child protective services check, dri driving record check, tuberculosis test and a s a sanction screening to the satisfaction of the the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred candidates will hold a master's degree in public health (MPH) or master of science (MS) in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health or a related field, plus two years of experience in epidemiology-related work. Must have knowledge and experience applying public health principles and practices of communicable disease epidemiology. Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to establish and maintain collaborative connections with internal and external partners. Position requires candidates to work independently and on interdisciplinary teams. Ideal candidates will be results driven, detail-oriented, and possess st possess strong analytical and critical thinking s thinking skills. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Microsoft Office Suite and other software applicatio applications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Job is generally sedentary in nature, however however, visual acuity is required to read data on data on computer monitor, incumbent must be able to able to operate keyboard driven equipment.
