Position Description: Temple University’s College of Public Health strives to solve health’s complexities for a better tomorrow. Our faculty prepare researchers, practitioners, and educators to collaborate across disciplines to understand community needs, create evidence-based solutions, and deliver effective, compassionate care. We invite applications for non-tenure track faculty to teach courses in the Bachelor of Science in Public Health and MPH and PhD Programs beginning in Spring Semester 2020 or Fall Semester 2020.

Qualifications. We seek faculty who have a strong record of teaching at the collegiate level, including demonstrated versatility in teaching a variety of courses, such as program planning, human sexuality, and disease prevention, as well as experience with online teaching. We seek enthusiastic, dedicated public health professionals with an earned doctorate in public health (DrPH or PhD) or a related field. An MPH is desirable, but not required. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with credentials and experience. Rank is open at the level of instructor, assistant, associate, or full professor dependent on qualifications. We value diversity and seek individuals committed to inclusive practices in education, research and practice.

The Programs. The BSPH at Temple is among the first in the nation and is highly successful at training entry-level public health professionals and preparing students for graduate school. The program has approximately 300 majors and 65 minors. We also administer a 4+1 BS-MPH program, a Nutrition minor, an MPH program (on-campus and online), and a PhD program with a specialization in Social & Behavioral Sciences. Across the related departments, there are approximately 175 MPH students.

The Department. Our 24 faculty strive to promote healthy communities and train students to excel in public health practice and research. We are committed to understanding and addressing the needs of vulnerable and underserved populations by leading and engaging in public health education, research, and service, often in collaboration with community partners. Our robust BSPH program, live and online MPH programs, and PhD Program in Social & Behavioral Science prepare graduates for career paths as community health educators, counselors and practitioners, policy makers, and researchers. The Department has particular research strengths in health behavior change theory and interventions; health communication; child and maternal health; organ and tissue donation; obesity prevention and intervention; and cancer prevention, control, and survivorship. The Department ranks first in the College for research expenditures and is committed to using research to inform instructional content and methods. Faculty members actively collaborate with research and clinical colleagues in the College of Public Health as well as the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Temple University Hospital, the CPH Center for Obesity Research and Education, Fox Chase Cancer Center, and many other government and non-profit public health organizations.

? The College. Devoted to an interprofessional environment for academic programming and research, the College of Public Health, a CEPH- accredited school of public health, is a constellation of academic units of public health, social work and health profession disciplines, enrolling 4,300 students. The College’s research focuses on social, behavioral, and environmental inquiries, medical/health interventions, and basic science and is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, and other major funders. The College has recently launched a new Center focused on Community Engaged Research and Practice. We are harnessing the collective energies of our clinical disciplines through an emerging, innovative framework for interprofessional education.
