Position Description: With your supervisor’s support and coordination, your primary duties will be: • Working independently to inspect housing units in the City of Eau Claire and Eau Claire County. • Generating electronic inspection reports for each housing unit visited. • Collaborating with community partners and others to research baseline community housing data, program evaluation metrics and targeting outreach materials. • Reviewing plans, issuing permits, and conducting inspections for the private onsite wastewater treatment systems (POWTS) program. • Building programs and services that will benefit our community!

Other experiences we offer include: • Conducting investigations and providing consultation for environmental injury or illness complaints emerging from a number of environmental health concerns and human health hazards; • Assisting in public health preparedness planning and response to emergency events; • Performing data collection, research, analysis and interpretation related to environmental health and adverse exposures within the community; • Participating in improving agency performance, processes, programs and interventions through continuous quality improvement; and • Performing other duties needed by your community.

Qualifications: Your minimum qualifications must include: • Bachelor’s degree in environmental/public health, bacteriology, biology or related field. • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. • A passion about both public service and a work-life balance.

Desired qualifications include: • Two years of supervised employment in the Environmental Health field is desired (internships may qualify) • State of Wisconsin Registered Sanitarian’s or National Environmental Health Specialist credential is desired.

Additional Information: This full-time 40 hour/week Environmental Health Specialist position has schedule flexibility and a salary range of $23.74 – $27.92/hour.
