Position Description: - Participates in public health informatics research under the guidance of a primary mentor. - Designs, develops, implements, and evaluates information systems that collect, manage and analyze data relevant to public health practice and population health outcomes. - Designs new studies and grant proposals as well as the execution of existing studies funded through extramural research grants. - Works on multiple aspects of research projects to develop skills as an independent researcher. - Produces multiple scientific abstracts, manuscripts, and research proposals as well as present at local Work-in-Progress sessions, national symposia, and international scientific conferences related to their research. - Collaborates with other Fairbanks School of Public Health investigators, as well as faculty at the Regenstrief Institute, IU School of Medicine, and IU School of Informatics and Computing.

Qualifications: - Because this position is funded through NIH/NLM, applicants must be permanently authorized to work in the United States at the time the position starts and meet other grant-related requirements. - Recent graduate (within the past 5 years) with a PhD, DrPH, or MD with a focus on public health, epidemiology, health policy & management, information science, informatics, computer science, or health services research. - Candidates must have received their doctorate prior to beginning the fellowship. - One year successful experience coordinating 2 or more projects simultaneously. - Strong communication and collaboration skills required for working/coordinating with investigators, staff, supervisors, and project personnel across one or more systems.

Organization Description: The mission of FSPH is to cultivate innovative, interdisciplinary, community engaged education, research and service and prepare leaders in public health and health care. Health is defined as the capacity to develop full human potential, not simply the absence of disease. In promoting the health of communities, FSPH emphasizes the prevention of disease and injury and recognizes the interconnectedness of the physical environment and ecosystem to the health of the community. Established in 2012, FSPH is fully accredited by CEPH and offers three PhD programs, an MPH with five concentrations, an MHA program, several graduate degrees, and BS degrees in Health Services Management and Public Health. Prior to 2012, the School was a department within the IU School of Medicine. Long-standing collaborations are in place with key community entities, including the Indiana State Health Department, the Marion County Public Health Department, and a wide variety of community organizations and industry partners. The Departments of Epidemiology and/or Health Policy & Management will host these fellows. These departments possesses a strong track record in NIH-funded research as well as extramural research funding from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Indiana State Department of Health, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The departments’ faculty are national and international experts in cancer, genetics, coronary heart disease, diabetes, nutrition, health policy, health economics, public health infectious disease reporting, and public health practice.
