Position Description: The Temple University School of Social Work invites applications for multiple full-time Non-Tenure Track Instructional Faculty. We seek individuals who share our dedication to nurturing the development of social work practitioners who are committed to evidence based practice at all systems levels within a framework of social justice. Assignment may include teaching in the BSW and MSW programs and online.

Positions and Qualifications. Applicants should have an MSW and a doctorate (DSW or PhD) in social work, social welfare, or relevant discipline. Although areas of teaching are open, we especially seek candidates with professional experience in 1) clinical social work practice or 2) child welfare/family development. Recruitment of persons with demonstrated teaching experience and excellence is a priority. We welcome applicants for classroom teaching and seek persons with experience in and commitment to online education. This may include familiarity with Canvas, Zoom, WebEx and/or similar learning management, communication and other educational software as well as experience in designing courses, monitoring instructional quality and incorporating discussion boards, video segments, and virtual instruction modules. All full-time Temple SSW faculty at are active members of the local Temple community. This is not a remote position.

The School of Social Work. Dr. Philip McCallion, an international expert in aging, dementia and intellectual disabilities, joined Temple in 2017. Under his direction, SSW’s 22 faculty serve 800 students in CSWE-accredited BSW and MSW programs. The BSW program focuses on generalist practice and the MSW program requires advanced-year students to concentrate in a practice method and specialize in a field of practice. These programs are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education through 2023. SSW plans to launch a doctoral program.

There is strong commitment to supporting students already in the workforce, building interdisciplinary education and expanding educational opportunities. The School is in its 3rd year of delivering a fully online MSW program and is proposing an online BSW program for persons with Associate Degrees. Through a partnership with other disciplines within the College, MSW students can earn a concurrent MPH and JD. A strong Department of Field Education assists about 400 students annually with field placements. SSW contributes significantly to the College’s Office of Clinical Practice and Field Education, which makes 3,500 placements annually and maintains relationships with 3,000 community agencies. In the past year, SSW faculty contributed to about 40 continuing education opportunities for 400 participants supporting the School’s growth in answering career development needs for social workers.

The School of Social Work’s impressive research portfolio includes research on fatherhood, aging, HIV/AIDS, mental health, substance abuse, health services, LGBTQ social and health issues, acculturation, interpersonal violence, and poverty. Opportunities exist to contribute to writing grants to support student training and education. Temple SSW has been fortunate to receive grants from the Human Resources and Services Administration for advanced clinical education and scholarships for disadvantaged students.

The College. Devoted to an interprofessional environment for academic programming and research, the College of Public Health, a CEPH-accredited school of public health, is a constellation of academic units of public health, social work and health profession disciplines, enrolling 4,300 students. The College’s research focuses on social, behavioral, and environmental inquiries, medical/health interventions, and basic science and is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, and other major funders. The College has recently launched a new Center focused on Community Engaged Research and Practice. We are harnessing the collective energies of our clinical disciplines through an emerging, innovative framework for interprofessional education. The University.
